MACHINE DESIGN

Mechanical engineering design is a complex process. Engineering design is the process of devising a system, component, or process to meet desired needs. It is an iterative process in which basic sciences, mathematics, and engineering sciences are applied to optimally convert resources to a product. Without design, there is no product. Even if the Manufacturing, Production, sales, etc… Are good, if the product is being poorly designed, the product will eventually fail. The Functionality of a product cannot be maintained when the design is poor.

Most customers will not be interested in the technical aspect of a product, the first of all will be impressed by “its looks”, and thereafter customers will be concerned about reliability and most importantly the cost of the product. Therefore design plays a major role everywhere in the product life cycle.

The survival of mechanical components will be depended upon stress and strength. One of the important parameter which should be considered while designing a mechanical component is the factor of safety as well as margin of safety. These factors play a big role in the case of uncertainty while we are designing a component. In mechanical design, we have to also consider dimensions and tolerances as well as calculations.

Engineering students during their training are presented with a vast amount of theoretical material and information. They only realize their weakness when they are faced with the task of logically applying what they have learned to a specific end. As long as their work is based on familiar models or previous designs, the knowledge they possess is perfectly adequate to enable them to find a solution along conventional lines. As soon as they are required to develop something already in existence to a more advanced stage or to create something entirely new without a previous design, they will fail miserably, unless they have reached a higher level of understanding. Without a set of guidelines, they are at a loss for a starting point and a clear finishing goal line. The design process was formalized to enable both students and professional designers to follow a systematic approach to design and help them guide their creativity and technical problem-solving skills to a satisfactory end.

Today, the engineer has a great variety of tools and resources available to assist in the solution of design problems. Inexpensive microcomputers and robust computer software packages provide tools of immense capability for the design, analysis, and simulation of mechanical components. In addition to these tools, the engineer always needs technical information, either in the form of basic science/engineering behavior or the characteristics of specific off-the-shelf components. Here, the resources can range from science/engineering textbooks to manufacturers’ brochures or catalogs. Here too, the computer can play a major role in gathering information.

Machine Design by myExcelclasses focus more on the practical point of view learning of design concepts. The concepts are learned through Software like AutoCAD, Catia, and Microsoft Excel. These courses will ready students industry-ready since it focusses more on the practical aspect of machine design rather than calculations. The important concepts like Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Fits, Lubrication all these concepts are presented in an effective manner using the software’s mentioned above.
