You can’t get to where you’re headed without knowing where you’re at. A prepatory review is a vital part of seting up and EMS. In this course we’ll explore the foundations of a Prepatory Environmental Review (PER) or GAP Analyses.
You can either go about doing this using internal resources or you can hire somebody like a consultant. Whichever option you choose there will be four main areas of focus. Firstly, you need to know about what your compliance obligations are to the law and government legistlation. Then you need to focus on making sure you know about all the environmental aspects and impacts of the organization. Thirdly, you need to think about you’re already doing in terms of policies and procedures. FInally, you need to closely examine what has gone wrong in the past to make sure it ain’t going to happen again.
In examining these four areas, you’ll come up with a Prepatory Environmental Review Report. This is going to tell you what your priorities should be, like complying with laws or regulations, and getting rid or your most detremental environmental impacts. It’ll tell you what possible causes of environmental complaints there are in your organization. And finally, it’ll highlight and bring to your attention some of the best or good practices your organization can implement in order to protect the environment and be even more sustainable.
This course covers all the things mentioned above in more detail.
It also features a GAP analyses tool that can even be used for internal audits. The checklist has points for each clause of ISO 14001 2015. It’s going to help you make sure that you’ve covered all your bases, dotted your I’s and crossed your T’s, clause by cluase, sub-clause by sub-clause.
